The Cellulite Cure

Every few years a new treatment or cure for cellulite surfaces and women rush out to try it. The latest system for getting rid of that ugly cottage cheese flesh is brought to us by Dr. Lionel Bissoon. I hope you aren't afraid of needles!

The pivot point of this treatment is mesotherapy. I know, strange and unfamiliar word. Mesotherapy describes the injection of homeopathic medications, traditional medications, and vitamins into the fat under the skin. The injections are said to deliver these medications directly to the problem, stimulating the body to heal itself. Some how, I have a problem with cellulite being treated like an illness, but I digress. Mesotherapy is touted as the cure for problem areas where “spot” reduction is desired. Dr. Bissoon offers a book explaining his program for eradicating cellulite along with a few glycolic acid creams to smooth the skin, much like those for the face. A smoother surface will make the dimpling of cellulite less noticeable.

The interesting aspect of cellulite isn't different from any other fat in the body, is not related to obesity, but is thought to have a hormonal basis as males can develop the same fatty deposits when testosterone levels fall. The cosmetics industry has had a field day creating products claiming to remove cellulite, even though the treatments don't do much more than make the skin look smoother. Totally cosmetic! Liposuction can actually make cellulite worse.

Since the lack of testosterone and the level of estrogen is a predeterming factor, along with genetics. Treating cellulite as if it is a disease targets women where they are most vulnerable, their appearance. A billion dollar industry rides on these fat deposits that are a badge of female maturity. Why deny this hallmark of the female form?

To be fair, Dr. Bissoon's page just happened to catch my eye. He's not a horrible person. His program brings to light how women are taught to fight their natural tendencies in order to conform to an impossible image. I am seriously considering purchasing his book for entertainment purposes, but am not buying into the idea that cellulite is a disease to be cured, a sign of weight problems, or that I would be more attractive without it.

My cure for cellulite is pride in being a woman.

Wow! Well said! Sadly I looked this up because I wanted to find a quick cure too! I didn't know it was because we have less testosterone, but it makes sense. Hmm.. I am just going to keep working out and not stress too much over it. Actually i saw a girl at the gym the other day who was sooooo skinny and toned and even she had cellulite! If only we could see it as a sign of fertility and attraction like say big lips or big eyes says. :) A+++ on this page!
